✨ Introduction
Among the 24 Ekadashis celebrated in Hindu tradition, the Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha Ekadashi holds a unique importance. It is popularly known as Daan Ekadashi or Karwant / Karvan Ekadashi. This sacred day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe. Devotees observe fasting, perform rituals, and engage in charitable acts, as the name “Daan” itself highlights the virtue of donation and selflessness.
At SHOKESH INDIA, we honor the spirit of Sanatan traditions by offering premium Poojan essentials, wedding items, and festival kits, ensuring that devotees can perform their rituals with authenticity and devotion.
🙏 Significance of Daan / Karwant Ekadashi
Observing this fast destroys sins of past lives and brings spiritual upliftment.
It blesses devotees with prosperity, peace, and good health.
Donation and charity performed on this day yield thousand-fold results.
It is believed to bring relief from obstacles, poverty, and chronic sufferings.
The Ekadashi also ensures ancestral blessings and liberation of departed souls.
📖 The Vrat Katha (Mythological Story)
According to the Vishnu Purana, a righteous king named Bali performed rigorous penance and charitable deeds, through which he gained control over the three worlds. The gods, fearing his growing power, prayed to Lord Vishnu for help.
Lord Vishnu appeared as Vamana Avatar (the dwarf Brahmin) and approached King Bali, asking for three paces of land as alms.
With the first step, He covered the earth.
With the second, He measured the heavens.
For the third, Bali humbly offered his head.
Pleased with his devotion and generosity, Lord Vishnu granted him sovereignty over the Patal Loka (netherworld) and eternal fame. This event highlights the supreme value of daan (charity) and is the foundation of this Ekadashi’s name.
🌿 Vrat Vidhi (Rituals of the Fast)
Morning Rituals – Devotees wake up early, take a holy bath, and wear clean clothes.
Puja of Lord Vishnu – Light a diya (lamp), offer sandalwood, flowers, Tulsi leaves, and chant Vishnu Sahasranama.
Fasting – Observers keep a strict fast or consume only fruits and milk throughout the day.
Evening Rituals – Perform Vishnu Aarti, offer prasad, and meditate on Lord’s form.
Charity (Daan) – Donate food, clothes, water, and dakshina to Brahmins and needy people. This is considered the most powerful aspect of this Ekadashi.
Parana (Breaking the fast) – On the next day (Dwadashi), the fast is broken after offering food to Brahmins or needy persons.
