The Difficult Decision

King Ambarish became deeply worried because Durvasa Rishi had still not returned. According to the rules of the vrat, failing to break the fast within the correct muhurat would be spiritually improper. However, eating before serving the guest would also be considered disrespectful.

The king faced a painful dilemma.

He consulted learned Brahmins and saints for guidance. After careful discussion, they advised him to drink a small amount of water. According to scripture, drinking water was considered both eating and not eating.

With complete sincerity and pure intention, King Ambarish sipped a little water while continuing to wait respectfully for Durvasa Rishi.

Unfortunately, at that exact moment, the sage returned.

Durvasa Rishi’s Anger

As soon as Durvasa Rishi learned that the king had technically broken the fast before serving him food, his anger exploded like fire.

The sage shouted at King Ambarish and accused him of insulting a guest. Despite the king’s humble attempts to explain the situation, Durvasa Rishi refused to calm down.

Blinded by rage, the sage pulled out a strand of hair from his head and threw it violently onto the ground. From that fiery energy emerged a terrifying demon filled with destructive power.

The monster rushed toward King Ambarish with the intention of killing him.

The entire palace became filled with fear and chaos.

But surprisingly, King Ambarish did not panic.

The Faith of King Ambarish

Even in the face of death, King Ambarish remained calm. He did not run away, argue, or try to fight the demon. Instead, he silently closed his eyes and remembered Lord Vishnu with complete surrender.

This moment reveals the greatness of true devotion.

The king’s faith was so deep that he trusted only divine protection. His mind remained peaceful even during danger because he believed that Lord Vishnu would never abandon a sincere devotee.

At that very moment, a brilliant divine light appeared in the sky.

Appearance of the Sudarshan Chakra

Suddenly, Lord Vishnu’s divine weapon — the Sudarshan Chakra — manifested instantly. The powerful spinning chakra radiated immense spiritual energy and divine fire.

Within seconds, the terrifying demon created by Durvasa Rishi was destroyed completely.

But the Sudarshan Chakra did not stop there.

It turned toward Durvasa Rishi himself.

For the first time, the mighty sage experienced fear. The blazing chakra chased him across the universe.

Durvasa Rishi Runs Across the Universe

Terrified for his life, Durvasa Rishi fled through different worlds seeking protection. He approached Lord Brahma and begged for help, but Brahma explained that he could not stop the divine chakra.

Then the sage went to Lord Shiva. Even Mahadev said that the Sudarshan Chakra obeyed only Lord Vishnu and protected true devotees.

Finally, exhausted and frightened, Durvasa Rishi reached Vaikunth and fell at the feet of Lord Vishnu.

The Lord said:

“I am completely bound by the love of my devotees. My heart belongs to those who worship me with sincerity.”

Lord Vishnu explained that he could not personally stop the Sudarshan Chakra because it was protecting King Ambarish, whose devotion was completely pure.

The Lord further said:

“I reside in the hearts of my devotees, and my devotees reside within my heart.”

Durvasa Rishi finally understood the greatness of true bhakti.

Lord Vishnu instructed him to return to King Ambarish and seek forgiveness.

Forgiveness of King Ambarish

Durvasa Rishi immediately returned to Earth and fell at the feet of King Ambarish asking for forgiveness.

What happened next revealed the true greatness of the king.

Despite being insulted, threatened, and attacked, King Ambarish held no anger in his heart. Instead, he prayed for the safety of Durvasa Rishi and requested the Sudarshan Chakra to calm down.

Immediately, the divine weapon disappeared peacefully.

Durvasa Rishi became emotional and realized that spiritual power alone is not enough. True devotion, humility, and compassion are far greater than ego and anger.
