The Power of Truth and Inner Purity
Day 7 Theme
“Truth may struggle for some time, but it never loses.”
The seventh day of Purushottam Maas teaches that purity of heart is more valuable than wealth, power, or fame. Bhagwan looks not at outer appearance, but at the truthfulness and devotion hidden inside the heart.
The Katha of the Honest Merchant
In ancient Bharat, there lived a merchant named Dharamdas. He was not rich like other traders, but he was respected because he never lied, cheated, or used unfair methods.
Every Purushottam Maas, Dharamdas would close his shop for one hour daily to pray to Lord Vishnu and read sacred scriptures.
Other merchants mocked him.
“If you spend time praying instead of earning money, you will remain poor forever,” they said.
But Dharamdas peacefully replied:
“Wealth without dharma destroys peace.”
One day, a wealthy traveler mistakenly left behind a bag full of gold coins at Dharamdas’s shop. Nobody had seen it happen.
For a moment, Dharamdas thought:
“With this gold, my family’s problems would end.”
But his conscience did not allow dishonesty.
He immediately searched for the traveler and returned the entire bag untouched.
The traveler was deeply shocked.
He said:
“In today’s world, honest people are rare. Ask for any reward.”
Dharamdas folded his hands and replied:
“Truth itself is my reward.”
The traveler later revealed that he was a royal officer sent by the king to find trustworthy people for important responsibilities. Hearing about Dharamdas’s honesty, the king appointed him as the chief advisor for trade and justice in the kingdom.
Slowly, the same people who once mocked him began respecting him.
And during Purushottam Maas, Dharamdas understood an eternal truth:
Bhagwan may test honesty, but He never ignores it.
