Day 9 Theme
“Ego separates us from Bhagwan, humility brings us closer.”
The ninth day of Purushottam Maas teaches us that pride is one of the greatest obstacles on our spiritual path. Wealth, knowledge, beauty, or power can become dangerous when they create arrogance in our hearts. Remember, Bhagwan blesses the humble, not the proud.
The Katha of the Proud Scholar
In an ancient kingdom, there lived a famous scholar named Vishambar. He had mastered many scriptures and was respected everywhere for his intelligence. Kings invited him to their royal courts, and disciples would touch his feet in reverence.
However, over time, knowledge turned into ego. Vishambar began to insult simple devotees who worshipped Lord Krishna with pure love. He would often say:
“What can these ordinary people know about spirituality? Only scholars like me understand true wisdom.”
One day, during Purushottam Maas, Vishambar visited a small temple. There, he saw an old gardener singing bhajans while offering flowers to Bhagwan, tears of devotion streaming down his face. The scholar laughed at the sight.
“You are uneducated,” he scoffed. “How can your simple prayers reach Bhagwan?”
The gardener folded his hands and humbly replied:
“Maharaj, I may not know scriptures, but I know how to love Bhagwan.”
That night, Vishambar had a strange dream. He saw Lord Vishnu sitting on a divine throne. Many scholars stood outside the gates of Vaikuntha, while the humble gardener was welcomed inside with honor. Shocked, Vishambar asked:
“Prabhu, I spent my whole life studying sacred knowledge. Why am I standing outside?”
Bhagwan replied:
“Knowledge without humility becomes pride. But devotion with humility reaches Me directly.”
Vishambar woke up in tears. The next morning, he touched the gardener’s feet and asked for forgiveness. From that day onward, he continued studying scriptures — but with humility and devotion.
And thus, everyone learned:

Embracing Humility in Daily Life
In our daily lives, we can practice humility in various ways. Here are some suggestions:
Listen Actively: When someone speaks, give them your full attention. This shows respect and appreciation for their thoughts.
Acknowledge Others: Celebrate the achievements of others, no matter how small. This fosters a sense of community and connection.
Practice Gratitude: Regularly reflect on what you are thankful for. This helps keep ego in check and reminds us of our blessings.
The Importance of Humility in Relationships
Humility plays a crucial role in our relationships. It allows us to connect with others on a deeper level. When we approach our interactions with an open heart, we create a space for love and understanding.
Build Trust: Humble individuals are often more trustworthy. They are seen as approachable and genuine.
Encourage Open Communication: When we are humble, we invite others to share their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment.
