Introduction
Savitri Vrat, also known as Vat Savitri Vrat, is a sacred festival celebrated by married Hindu women across India, especially in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha. The vrat is dedicated to Devi Savitri, who epitomized love, devotion, and unwavering determination to bring her husband back from the clutches of death.
This vrat symbolizes the strength of a devoted wife and is observed for the long life, health, and prosperity of the husband, and marital bliss
Savitri Vrat Katha (The Story of Savitri and Satyavan)
The story is from the Mahabharata. Princess Savitri, daughter of King Ashwapati, chose a noble and virtuous man Satyavan as her husband, despite knowing he was destined to die within a year of marriage.
On the foretold day of his death, she followed Satyavan into the forest. When Yamraj (God of Death) came to take his soul, Savitri followed him and debated with divine wisdom, impressing Yamraj with her loyalty and dharma.
Moved by her truth and tapasya, Yamraj restored Satyavan’s life and blessed them with long, prosperous married life.
This story stands as a beacon of a wife's strength, intellect, and devotion.
