Khatu Shyam Ji, also known as Haare Ka Sahara and Lakhdataar, is one of the most beloved deities of India, especially worshipped in Rajasthan and across the world by devotees who seek miracles, hope, and divine support. Known as the Kaliyuga Avatar of Shri Krishna, Khatu Shyam Ji blesses every soul who remembers Him with a pure heart and surrender.
Every year, His divine Appearance Day (Birthday) is celebrated with immense devotion on Falgun Shukla Dwitiya, a day filled with bhakti, joy, music, devotion, and spiritual blessings.
The Divine Story of Khatu Shyam Ji
Khatu Shyam Ji was born as Barbarik, the grandson of Bhim and son of Ghatotkach. Even as a young warrior, he was blessed with unmatched powers and three celestial arrows.
When Lord Krishna tested him before the Mahabharata war, Barbarik vowed:
“I will always support the weaker side.”
Krishna knew that this promise would create imbalance in Dharma. To protect righteousness, Krishna asked Barbarik for a sacrifice — his head.
Without hesitation, Barbarik offered his head. Moved by his devotion, Krishna blessed him:
“You will be worshipped as Shyam in Kaliyuga. Whoever remembers you with a true heart will receive my blessings through you.”
Thus, Barbarik became Khatu Shyam Ji, the deity of surrender, sacrifice and divine compassion.
