The Power of Good Company (Satsang)
Day 14 Theme
“The company you keep shapes your destiny.”
The fourteenth day of Purushottam Maas teaches that good company uplifts the soul, while negative company slowly destroys peace, wisdom, and devotion. Satsang — the company of truthful, spiritual, and positive people — purifies the mind and strengthens bhakti.
The Katha of the Young Woodcutter
Long ago, in a dense forest village, lived a young woodcutter named Arjun. He was hardworking and innocent but often spent time with dishonest friends who gambled, lied, and mocked spirituality.
Though Arjun’s parents advised him to avoid such company, he ignored them.
One day during Purushottam Maas, while returning from the forest, Arjun met an old saint sitting beneath a tree chanting the holy name of Lord Krishna.
The saint smiled and asked:
“Son, where are you going in such a hurry?”
Arjun replied carelessly:
“I am going to meet my friends.”
The saint gently said:
“A person slowly becomes like the people he spends time with.”
Arjun laughed and left.
Days later, his friends convinced him to participate in dishonest activities for quick money. Eventually, they abandoned him when trouble came, and Arjun lost the trust of his family and villagers.
Broken and ashamed, he wandered alone until he again met the saint during Purushottam Maas.
This time Arjun fell at his feet and said:
“Maharaj, my life became miserable because I ignored your advice.”
The saint compassionately replied:
“Bad company weakens wisdom, but good company can rebuild life.”
The saint invited Arjun to join satsang gatherings where devotees sang bhajans, discussed the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, and served the needy.
Slowly, Arjun’s mind changed. He left harmful habits, became peaceful, and rebuilt his reputation through honesty and devotion.
Years later, Arjun himself became known as a wise and kind devotee who guided others toward dharma.
And everyone understood:
Satsang transforms the direction of life.
