Purushottam Maas – Day 16 Katha

The Importance of Patience and Calmness

Day 16 Theme

“Patience protects wisdom during difficult moments.”

The sixteenth day of Purushottam Maas teaches that impatience and anger create confusion, while patience and calmness lead to right decisions and inner peace. Bhagwan tests devotees not only through hardships, but also through delays and uncertainty.

The Katha of the Potter

Long ago, in a quiet village, lived a potter named Devu. He was hardworking but often became impatient whenever things did not go according to his plans.

If customers delayed payment, he became angry.

If work took longer, he lost peace quickly.

Still, during Purushottam Maas, Devu regularly prayed to Lord Vishnu and visited the village temple.

One day, after working for many hours, Devu prepared a large number of clay pots to sell in the market. Suddenly, heavy rain began unexpectedly and destroyed most of his pots before they could dry properly.

Devu became furious.

“Why does Bhagwan always test me?” he shouted.

An old saint passing through the village quietly heard his words. The saint picked up a half-broken pot and asked Devu:

“Tell me, how are strong pots made?”

Devu replied:

“With patience. Clay must be shaped slowly, dried carefully, and heated properly.”

The saint smiled gently.

“Then why do you expect life to become strong without patience?”

Those words deeply touched Devu’s heart.

The saint further explained:

“Bhagwan shapes human life just as a potter shapes clay. Difficulties, delays, and struggles make the soul stronger.”

From that day onward, Devu began practicing calmness. Whenever problems came, he paused, prayed, and trusted divine timing instead of reacting with anger.

Slowly, his relationships improved, his work became successful, and his mind became peaceful.

And Devu finally understood:

Patience is not waiting helplessly — it is trusting Bhagwan while continuing effort.
