“When the mind remembers Bhagwan, fear and sorrow begin to fade.”
The seventeenth day of Purushottam Maas teaches that chanting the holy names of Bhagwan is one of the simplest and most powerful spiritual practices. Wealth, knowledge, and status may come and go, but the divine name remains a constant source of strength and peace.
The Katha of the Shepherd Boy
Long ago, in a small village, lived a young shepherd named Gopal. Every day he took his flock into the nearby forest to graze.
Gopal was poor and uneducated, but he had immense love for Lord Krishna. An elderly saint once taught him a simple mantra:
“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare”
The saint said:
“Whenever you are happy, chant it. Whenever you are afraid, chant it. Whenever you are confused, chant it.”
Gopal followed this advice sincerely.
One evening during Purushottam Maas, a fierce storm struck while he was deep inside the forest. Thunder roared, rain poured heavily, and darkness surrounded him.
The frightened sheep scattered in different directions.
Gopal felt helpless.
Remembering the saint’s words, he closed his eyes and began chanting the holy name of Bhagwan with complete faith.
As he continued chanting, his fear slowly disappeared. After some time, he noticed a faint light coming from a nearby hill path. Following that path, he safely guided all the sheep back to the village.
The villagers were amazed.
An elder asked:
“How did you remain calm in such danger?”
Gopal replied:
“When I remembered Bhagwan’s name, I no longer felt alone.”
Years later, Gopal became known throughout the region for his devotion and wisdom. People often came to him for guidance, and he always shared the same lesson:
The divine name is a companion that never leaves us.
