Purushottam Maas – Day 19 Katha

The Power of Truthfulness (Satya Dharma)

Day 19 Theme

“Truth may face obstacles, but it ultimately triumphs.”

The nineteenth day of Purushottam Maas teaches that truth is one of the strongest pillars of dharma. A person may gain temporary success through dishonesty, but lasting peace, respect, and divine blessings come only through truthfulness.

Bhagwan Himself is pleased by those who uphold truth even when it is difficult.

The Katha of the Honest Merchant

Long ago, in a prosperous town, lived a merchant named Govind. He was known for his devotion to Lord Krishna and his commitment to honesty.

Unlike many traders, Govind never cheated customers, never used false weights, and never made dishonest promises.

People trusted him deeply.

One year during Purushottam Maas, a wealthy traveler left behind a precious pouch filled with gold coins in Govind’s shop. No one witnessed the mistake.

Govind could have easily kept the pouch.

His friends advised him:

“No one knows the owner. Keep the gold and improve your life.”

But Govind replied:

“A lie hidden from people can never be hidden from Bhagwan.”

For several days he searched for the owner.

Finally, he found the traveler and returned every coin untouched.

The traveler was overwhelmed.

“Why would you return such wealth when nobody would have questioned you?”

Govind smiled and answered:

“Wealth earned through dishonesty becomes a burden. Truth brings peace.”

The traveler later revealed that he was a trusted representative of the king. Impressed by Govind’s integrity, he informed the royal court.

Soon, Govind was appointed as the kingdom’s chief trade advisor because everyone knew they could trust his judgment.

That night, Govind dreamt of Lord Vishnu blessing him and saying:

“Those who protect truth are always under My protection.”

And thus the town learned:

Truth may not always be the easiest path, but it is always the safest path.
