The Blessing of Forgiveness and Compassion
Day 21 Theme
“Forgiveness heals the heart more than revenge ever can.”
The twenty-first day of Purushottam Maas teaches that forgiveness is one of the highest virtues in Sanatan Dharma. Holding on to anger, hatred, and resentment burdens the mind, while forgiveness brings peace, freedom, and divine grace.
A compassionate heart becomes a worthy place for Bhagwan to reside.
The Katha of the Farmer and His Neighbor
Long ago, in a small village, lived a farmer named Madhav. He was hardworking, honest, and devoted to Lord Krishna.
His neighbor, Ramesh, however, was jealous of Madhav's success. Over time, jealousy turned into bitterness. Ramesh often spread false rumors about Madhav and created problems for him.
Despite this, Madhav never responded with anger.
During Purushottam Maas, he prayed daily and asked Bhagwan for wisdom and patience.
One year, heavy rains caused severe flooding in the village. Many homes and fields were damaged. Among the worst affected was Ramesh's house.
His crops were destroyed, and his family was left without food.
The villagers expected Madhav to ignore him because of the years of mistreatment.
Instead, Madhav gathered food, clothes, and supplies and personally delivered them to Ramesh's family.
Ramesh was shocked.
With tears in his eyes, he asked:
“After everything I did to you, why are you helping me?”
Madhav replied:
“Hatred cannot remove hatred. Only kindness can do that.”
Those words touched Ramesh deeply.
He apologized sincerely for his actions and promised to change his ways.
From that day onward, the two families became close friends and worked together for the welfare of the village.
That night, Madhav dreamt of Lord Vishnu blessing him and saying:
“The one who forgives becomes dear to Me.”
And thus everyone learned:
Compassion has the power to transform hearts where punishment cannot.
Moral of Day 21
