The Glory of Satsang (Holy Company)
Day 23 Theme
“One moment of good company can change the direction of an entire life.”
The twenty-third day of Purushottam Maas teaches the importance of Satsang—the company of saints, devotees, and righteous people. Just as a fragrant flower spreads its fragrance to everything around it, good company influences our thoughts, actions, and destiny.
The Katha of the Hunter
Long ago, a hunter named Bhairav lived near a dense forest. Hunting animals was his livelihood, but over time he became harsh, angry, and indifferent to the suffering of others.
One day during Purushottam Maas, while searching for prey, Bhairav lost his way in the forest. As night approached, he noticed a group of devotees sitting around a sacred fire, singing bhajans in praise of Lord Krishna.
The devotees welcomed him warmly and offered him food and water.
Bhairav was surprised.
“You do not even know me. Why are you treating me with such kindness?”
An elderly saint replied:
“Every soul is a child of Bhagwan.”
That night, Bhairav stayed with the devotees and listened to stories about dharma, compassion, and devotion.
The saint explained:
“A person's life changes according to the company they keep. Bad company encourages harmful habits, while good company awakens wisdom.”
Those words stayed in Bhairav's heart.
Over the next few days, he continued attending the satsang. Gradually, his anger reduced, his thoughts became calmer, and compassion awakened within him.
Eventually, he gave up unnecessary violence and began earning his livelihood through honest work.
Years later, Bhairav became known as a kind and respected devotee. Whenever people asked what changed his life, he would say:
“One evening of satsang showed me the path I had forgotten.”
That night, Bhairav dreamt of Lord Vishnu blessing him and saying:
“The company of the righteous leads a soul closer to Me.”
